This publication is a work of love and joy, but we are not going to step lightly where a heavy tread is required. The great green state of Tennessee holds memories sad and humorous – and a promise that could easily fade if inhabitants do not look to and nourish its soul. A better state of mind, body and spirit is possible here. We have experienced and foresee some of it. Nevertheless, Tennesseans can fall prey to stingy, dim-witted selfishness just as well as any others. Let's not go there.
